Anthony Johnson in favor of instant replay in mixed martial arts

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who among other things is known for one of the worst eye poke incidents in MMA history, recently spoke with PRO MMA (promma.info) about a number of topics including the recent UFC 99 fight between Mostapha Al-Turk and Mirko “CroCop” Filipovic that ended in a brutal TKO beating after Al-Turk was poked in the eye and was unable to defend himself.

Johnson compared what happened in his “UFC Fight Night 14” fight against Kevin Burns to the Al-Turk incident,

“His poke wasn’t nearly as crazy as mine. I got poked in the eye five times by somebody who said their hand was broke. He was in the middle of the exchanges where he just happened to poke the guy in the eye, and that’s just what happens sometimes. But me, I got poked five times, and there’s no excuse you know?”

Cro Cop returns to UFC with new motivation

For the first time since 2007, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic will return to the UFC this Saturday, June 13, in Cologne, Germany where he will face fellow heavyweight Mostapha Al-Turk. The 34-year-old Croatian was excited about the prospect of fighting at UFC 99 due to Germany’s high Croatian population.

UFC President Dana White made it clear when Cro Cop left the promotion two years ago the door to the Octagon would remain open to him if the day came he wanted to return. Cro Cop earned his name as the most fearsome striker on the planet during his four year tenure with the Pride organization in Japan.

However, something was amiss when he arrived in the UFC in 2007. He won his first fight but was brutally knocked out in his second fight and lost a unanimous decision in his third. Something was different. Cro Cop tried to explain it during Tuesday’s UFC 99 conference call, “I just think I wasn’t the old Mirko Cro Cop that I used to be. I don’t know the reason. I spent so many times thinking about it. I don’t know, maybe I was just empty right after I won the Pride Grand Prix, I don’t know.”

UFC officially announces Cro Cop vs. Al-Turk for Germany

We here at PRO MMA (promma.info) told you almost two weeks ago that Mirko Filipovic would be returning to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in Germany. For some reason the UFC remained tight-lipped on the subject; but no more.

The UFC made the official announcement today on their website that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic will return to the Octagon against England’s Mostapha Al-Turk on the main card of “UFC 99: The Comeback” in Cologne, Germany on June 13th.

Due to a knee surgery he had earlier this year, this will mark “Cro Cop’s” first fight of 2009. The Croation stated he hopes to fight three times by year’s end. The terms and number of fights on “Cro Cop’s” contract with the UFC has not been disclosed.

UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008 card finalized

The UFC has announced their full lineup for the December 27th event, dubbed “The Ultimate 2008.” This card is stacked from top to bottom, with two titles on the line and many other explosive matchups.

Rampage Jackson faces Wanderlei Silva in what promises to be an MMA fan’s dream fight. As many may remember, Silva won the first two times these gladiators faced off; both times in the Pride Fighting Championships and both times in impressive knockout fashion.

Wanderlei would like to put together a win streak and build upon his last victory, while Rampage looks to avenge his two previous losses to Silva, and hopefully get back in line for a shot at the UFC LHW Title. As most know, there is genuinely bad blood between these two so look for sparks to fly.
