Guillard vs. Edwards, Brenneman vs. A. Alves in the works for January UFC event

The UFC is putting together a fight card this January that includes a lightweight bout between Melvin Guillard and Yves Edwards and a welterweight contest between Charlie Brenneman and Amilcar Alves.

UFC 107 recap: B.J. Penn dominates Diego Sanchez, Frank Mir puts Kongo to sleep

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Never lacking in self confidence, Diego Sanchez was hoping for a passing of the guard coming into his title shot with UFC Lightweight Champion B.J. Penn. The chants of “YES!” were there, as were the mean mugs, but all of the scary faces in the world could not save Sanchez from the brutal, lopsided beating that he received from Penn.

Penn used his superior boxing skills and hand speed to consistently punish the very game Sanchez throughout the five championship rounds of the bout. When Penn wasn’t landing big shots and counter left hooks, he was easily defending “Nightmare’s” best attempts of getting the fight to the ground.

It appeared early on, that the fight might not even make it out of the first round. As Sanchez looked to get his range, Penn stepped in and dropped Sanchez with a right hand. Penn was looking for the finish, unleashing a barrage of punches as the referee watched closely.
