UFC selects Future US to oversee its media brand

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization today announced it has selected Future US, a leading digital media group, to oversee its UFC 360, the official magazine of the UFC. Through the partnership, Future US will publish the UFC 360 Magazine in the US, UK and Australia; as well as the worldwide digital property. The first Future US managed issue will launch in April (#28), which will hit stands on April 1, 2014.

The state of MMA jounalism

Last week was certainly an interesting one in the world of MMA journalism. Fighthype.com reported UFC and Pride veteran Kevin Randleman signed with Strikeforce. The report started the wheels of the MMA news machine. One site after another published the article and it cascaded across the web as if the story was like the marble setting off all the traps in the mousetrap board game – or at least how it works in the commercial. Soon the story was as ubiquitous as the embedded video of ESPN’s MMA Live on a late Thursday afternoon.

Later that day, Strikeforce honcho Scott Coker revealed that while his promotion was in talks with Randleman, the fighter remained unsigned. Only this time the dominoes didn’t fall and only a few sites published retractions or updated articles.

Dana White at UFC 87 Post-Fight Press Conference (audio)

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – UFC 87 was a huge success on many levels from ticket sales to the fights themselves. The Target Center in Minneapolis, where the event was held, set a new record gate of $2.2 million dollars with 15,082 attendees.

Dana said, “Georges St. Pierre put on an amazing performance against a guy (Jon Fitch) who would not quit…he took him down at will…GSP looked unstoppable.”

And when your boss says this about you, it’s a damn good day: “When Brock said he wanted to fight in the UFC, I told him this isn’t the place to learn how to fight…but he said he wanted to test himself against the best…Heath Herring has a ton of experience, big fights with some of the best fighters in the world…Brock Lesnar looked unbelievable tonight. I was blown away with how well he looked.”

According to Dana, Minneapolis is the best kept secret in America and maybe the world. That’s interesting…I thought that was Lyoto.

Do you see the fight between B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre being the next fight for them both? “Definitely,” said White.
