West Coast Amateur Spotlight: Millennia MMA’s Jamar Ocampo

This edition of PRO MMA’s Amateur Spotlight shines upon a young 22-year-old up-and-coming fighter out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. named Jamar Ocampo. He is a morning BJJ instructor at Millennia MMA and an accomplished grappler under Javier Vazquez.

Since there is no amateur MMA in the Golden State, Jamar gained the majority of his combat experience in grappling competitions and Pankration tournaments all over Southern California. His current Pankration record is 10-1. Jamar had one full-fledged amateur MMA bout in Idaho and choked out his opponent in 52 seconds. His professional debut is set for September in King of the Cage.

Team USA East rallies to beat Finland 3-2 at M-1 Challenge Kansas City

Despite having only accepted a fight on 36 hours notice, Team USA East heavyweight Lloyd Marshbanks was the deciding factor in his team’s come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Team Finland on Friday night in Kansas City.

Marshbanks was added to the Team USA roster after Mike Ottman did not receive medical clearance from the Kansas Boxing Commission.

Listed on some fight databases at 16-8, industry insiders believe that Marshbanks is 50-8, with many of his fights taking place in Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and also in California before mixed martial arts was legal. Marshbanks improved to 17-8 officially after submitting Toni Valtonen at 0:55 of round 2 due to a neck crank.

M-1 Challenge back to Kansas City on June 5

We at PRO MMA (promma.info) are always on the look out for MMA’s up-and-coming talent, potential future stars of tomorrow. A couple of weeks ago we introduced you to one such heavyweight prospect by the name of Liron Wilson (4-2) and we talked with him the day prior to his fight at King of the Cage.

Wilson fought Jason Bedker at KOTC: EL LOBO on May 23rd in Colorado and walked away with an armbar submission victory just 1:09 into round one. A few days following the bout, Wilson received the short notice offer to fight on the June 5th card at the M-1 CHALLENGE event in Kansas City, Missouri.

Because Wilson’s victory came so quickly and he came out of the May 23rd fight unscathed, he jumped at the prospect of fighting at the June 5th M-1 CHALLENGE event. Wilson will be representing Team Turkey as they take on the World Team and his opponent will be Michael Kitta.

Levi Stout improves undefeated record at “King of the Cage: El Lobo” – full results

Levi Stout improves to 6-0

UFC 98 was not the only MMA action going on this weekend although it would be easy to think that with most MMA websites filled up exclusively with UFC coverage. Some high-caliber professional MMA action also went down at “KING OF THE CAGE: EL LOBO” on Saturday May 23rd at the Ute Mountain Casino in Cortez, Colorado.

The main event featured the undefeated middleweight Levi Stout getting a tapout victory over Sidiah Parker and improving his record to 6-0. Also on the card was Liron Wilson, who we featured in our PRO MMA KOTC Heavyweight Spotlight last week. Due to being sidelined with a leg injury it was Wilson’s first fight of 2009. Evidently ring rust was not an issue as the athletic heavyweight submitted his opponent Jason Bedker via armbar just 69 seconds into the fight (not to mention he took the fight on ten days notice).

Here are the complete results for “KOTC: EL LOBO:”
