The weigh-ins for Friday’s Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5 took place today at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The event, which features a welterweight headliner between undefeated Tyron Woodley and Rudy Bears, airs Nov. 20 on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m CT / 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on west coast).

There was only one fighter on the card that did not make weight. Brian Davidson, who is fighting Russel Patrick in a featherweight *145 lbs.) match on the preliminary card, came in weighing 147 lbs. Other than that, everyone was spot on.

Live MMA action returns to Showtime on Friday, Nov. 20: “Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5” preview

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Strikeforce returns to action with Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5 Friday night, Nov. 20, 2009, at Kansas City Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The main event features a welterweight bout between undefeated submission phenom Tyron Woodley (5-0) taking on fast-rising Rudy Bears (10-3), who is on a six-fight win-streak.

Woodley has submitted all five of the opponents he has faced. Woodley’s first pro fight was in 2006, and he submitted Alex Carter via rear-naked choke. Woodley had no professional MMA bouts from 2007-2008, but he returned to competition this year with a bang.

Woodley has already fought four times this year, and submitted every one of his opponents (one was due to strikes). Four of his five victories have come in the first round, and his most recent victory, over Zach Light at Strikeforce – Challengers 3, came via armbar in the second round.

The highly regarded Woodley will be making his main event debut in the scheduled three-round, 5-minute welterweight (170 pounds) bout that will be one of five televised on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

Brandon Vera unsatisfied with judges’ decision

Brandon “The Truth” Vera (11-3) had a dominating unanimous decision performance this past weekend over Krzysztof Soszynski (18-9-1) at UFC 102 in Portland, Ore. Brandon was a guest this morning on MMAJunkie Radio and talked about the fight and what the future holds for the light heavyweight prospect.

Although pleased he got the win, Vera is definitely the type of fighter who does not like to leave it in the judges’ hands. “It was a good fight. It was fun to go three rounds again,” said Vera. “I wish I would have finished the fight. I hate when it goes to the judges’ scorecards. It was unsatisfying I guess you could say.”
