Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to fight Keith Jardine at UFC 96

It was announced today during the UFC 93 broadcast from Dublin, Ireland that the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will fight “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine in the main event at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio on March 7, 2009.

Quinton Jackson is coming off a huge knockout win against Wanderlei Silva in a grudge match after Silva defeated Jackson twice in Japan in the PRIDE organization. Keith Jardine is also coming off a win. His victory came at UFC 89 where he eeked out a split decision victory against Brandon “The Truth” Vera.

Surely, Jackson is looking to get back in title contention and with a win over Jardine that is most likely right where he will be. Many thought with his victory over Wanderlei the UFC may already match him up against Rashad Evans for a title shot. It will be very interesting to see who Evans gets matched up with for his first Light Heavyweight Title defense.

The Iceman wants revenge with Jardine

For a couple months now there have been rumors of former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell either taking on UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 95 in London, with Silva moving up to light heavyweight or Liddell moving up to heavyweight to face Randy Couture for a fourth time, in Germany at UFC 99 in June.

Addressing the rumors, “The Iceman” has made it clear that he is not looking for a fight with Silva or Couture and the organization has not approached him about either fight.

However, there is one fight on Chuck Liddell’s mind; a rematch with Keith Jardine. Liddell has been quoted as saying, “There’s been a few names. We have Jardine listed. We want him in March.”

Dana White disappointed with Brandon Vera

by: Jack Bratcher
When Brandon Vera entered the UFC he stated that he wanted to first win the Heavyweight Title and then move down in weight and take the Light Heavyweight Title as well, being the only person to hold both belts at the same time. After back to back defeats at heavyweight he moved down to light heavyweight and now it seems even the lighter half of his dream is fading further away. Vera gave up a split decision loss to Keith Jardine Saturday night, October 18, in Birmingham, England.

Chuck Liddell’s secret; an interview with Rashad Evans

by:  Jack Bratcher

Pro MMA Radio host, Larry Pepe, interviewed Rashad Evans last week and uncovered some very interesting information about the man who put the Iceman to sleep. Probably the most interesting and noteworthy detail of this interview consists of Rashad Evans revealing a “tell” that Chuck Liddell gave away in his fight that allowed Rashad to capitalize on the moment and send shockwaves throughout the UFC Light Heavyweight division and the entire MMA world. Much the same way a poker player may go all in, but a “tell” to one who knows has let on that it is a bluff, Rashad received a certain bit of information from a training partner that may very well have made all the difference.

When asked if the win had sunk in yet? Rashad says, “Yeah a little bit, but it still kind of feels unreal. I was such a huge underdog.” Rashad gives a lot of the credit for his win over Liddell to his muay thai and boxing coach, Mike Winklejohn. Evans says about Winklejohn, “He seen it coming a long time ago. He told me at the beginning of training camp, this is the punch that is going to put Chuck Liddell down.” According to Rashad, his coach had watched a lot of film on Chuck and came up with the formula that would take him out. In fact Winklejohn was so confident of how the fight was going to turn out he told Rashad just before the fight as he was warming up, “What’s going to happen is you’re gonna hit him with that overhand right and knock him out and I won’t be able to get into the cage afterward to congratulate you because he’s gonna still be sleeping.” And that is exactly what happened. I don’t even know if that is confidence. It is more like prophecy.
