Bellator to crown two champions at season finale June 19

Bellator’s inaugural season comes to a close with “Bellator XII” on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., the same location the 12-week tournament started on April 3. PRO MMA ( received the full details on Wednesday.

Villasenor vs. Cyborg headlines Strikeforce Challengers this Friday June 19

Just in case you have been in a hole somewhere and did not know; this is a huge weekend for MMA fans. It is hard to believe we are getting so much quality action these days, but it is true and we at PRO MMA ( hope you enjoy reading about everything MMA here as much as we love bringing it to you.

One of the big shows of the weekend will take place at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. on Friday, June 19, with Strikeforce Challengers second event which will air live on Showtime beginning at 8:00 pm PT/11:00 pm ET. Headlining the card will be “Smokin” Joey Villasenor (26-6) vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (16-12) in a middleweight showdown.

The Strikeforce Challengers card also includes the return of Jorge Gurgel (12-5) in his first fight since being released from the UFC last November. He will be taking on Bully Beatdown star Conor “Hurricane” Heun (8-2) at 155 lbs. Gurgel has made it clear fans will see a completely new fighter, just as aggressive, but more willing to use the BJJ he is known for.

From prison to Showtime, Lyle Beerbohm has come a long way

Just two short years ago 30-year-old Lyle Beerbohm (9-0) was sitting in a Walla Walla State Prison cell. ¬†On June 19, 2009, Beerbohm, now a successful professional mixed martial artist will be fighting in front of millions of people on Showtime as he takes on Duane “Bang” Ludwig (18-8) at the Strikeforce Challengers event in Kent, Washington.

Beerbohm is proof people can change. The story goes that while serving an 18-month prison sentence, he saw an episode of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV, “When I was sitting in prison and watching The Ultimate Fighter show I was like ‘Are you serious? Those guys are on TV, making money?’ I knew I could take those guys so, right then and there, I made up my mind and haven’t looked back since.”
