Against the odds: the history of Frank Mir’s UFC career

by: Sohail Arif / Jack Bratcher

Frank Mir started his UFC career in 2001 at UFC 34 against a very high level BJJ black belt practitioner in Roberto Traven (Mundial winner and an ADCC champion). Frank Mir was a purple belt at the time and submitted Travern in just over one minute into round one.  It was a very impressive debut and everyone took notice.

In his next bout at UFC 36 Frank was pitted against UFC veteran Pete Williams. Williams had faced the likes of Kevin Randleman, Semmy Schilt and former UFC HW Champion, Ricco Rodriguez.  He had never been submitted in his career, yet Frank Mir in his second UFC bout submitted Williams in just 46 seconds with a very impressive shoulder lock.

M-1 releases statement about Brock Lesnar

Oh man, one cool thing about this sport is there is ALWAYS something going on. It’s almost like a soap opera at times.  Fedor Emelianenko’s management company, M-1 released a statement on Tuesday claiming the long-talked about fight between Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko has now “lost its luster” due to Randy losing to Brock Lesnar at UFC 91.

Lesnar helps make case for weight class change

by: Jack Bratcher

As Randy Couture stepped into the Octagon tonight at UFC 91 and stood toe to toe with Brock Lesnar at the stare down I actually became afraid for the Champ.

It was only then that I finally realized just how enormous Brock Lesnar really is.

The size difference was so great one must wonder, how is this even fair? This got me to thinking, why in the world is the weight category for heavyweight so large?
