Kentucky Fighting Challenge hosting 50th show on May 30

Kentucky Fighting Challenge has reached a milestone with its 50th mixed martial arts fight card to take place at the old Civic Center in Corbin, Kentucky on Saturday May 30th. It will be a PRO / AM card with PRO MMA ( “Southeastern Amateur Spotlight” fighter Greg Maynard making his pro debut against six-foot 250-pound Andrew Earls. The other pro fight on the card will feature heavyweight C.J. McVey taking on Jerry Burns.

PRO MMA sponsored fighter, Greg Maynard, ready for his final amateur bout

PRO MMA ( sponsored fighter, Greg Maynard (7-2), will be fighting in his final amateur bout this Saturday May 2nd.

Greg’s opponent will be David Cagg (5-2) and they will be fighting at AAF’s (All-American Fight Sports) “Release the Beast” show beginning at 7:30 PM at Franklin High School in Franklin, Ohio.

Greg was one of the first fighters to sign up on our “Fighter Classifieds,” which is a section of our site where we try to help up-and-coming fighters hook up with promoters so they can get fights. After talking with Greg and checking out some of his videos, we realized his talent level and featured him in one of our very first “PRO MMA Amateur Spotlight” articles back in July 2008.

The Arena VII – Aug 9th, 2008 Wise, VA

The UFC wasn’t the only MMA event happening on August 9th.  The ARENA VII was held this past Saturday night in Wise, Virgina.  One match in particular on that card featured Josh Stepp (who is Greg Maynard’s wrestling coach) from West Virginia faced Andre Boyd from Kingston, Tennessee.  While Dustin Hamm vs. Elmo Jones got Fight of the Night honors, Josh Stepp vs. Andre Boyd came a close second.  Josh got the victory over Boyd and this video will show you what we’re dealing with here.  Clearly, with guys like Maynard winning the Heavyweight Title last week and his good friend and wrestling coach, Josh Stepp putting on performances like this, West Virginia has some great MMA talent on the rise.

Greg Maynard Wins Gladiator Fighting Championship’s Heavyweight Title

A couple of weeks ago in our Southeastern Amateur Spotlight, PRO MMA introduced you to Greg Maynard who was getting ready to fight for Gladiator Fighting Championship’s Heavyweight Title.  On Saturday August 2nd, Greg Maynard faced Bobby Seale in Pikeville, KY to decide who would be the next Amateur Heavyweight Champion after the former champ stepped down.  PRO MMA caught up with Greg after the event to find out how the fight went down.  Here’s what Greg had to say:

“We came out exchanged a few punches and I shot in and took him down…He caught me with a good left that busted my nose pretty good…I could feel the blood starting to run and it was hard to breathe, so i shot in and took him to the ground…I was bleeding pretty bad when we hit the ground, that’s why the ref stopped it for a sec…I was bleeding all over him…we restarted in the same position and I just hammered away until the ref stepped in and stopped it!”
