Fighter in transition – PRO MMA exclusive interview: Vinny Magalhaes

At only 24-years-old, Vinicius “Vinny” Magalhães has already accomplished more than the average man ever will. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, bred on the mats of the Gracie Tijuca Academy under the tutelage of the son of Helio Gracie, the BJJ world was his playground. After years of dominating grappling tournaments and winning championships, in 2006, Vinny began the transition into professional MMA.

He had a few fights and then in 2008 he became a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter season 8: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir. Vinny made it to the finals but lost to Ryan Bader with a first round TKO. He had one more fight in the Octagon at UFC 97 in April 2009 and gave up a unanimous decision to Eliot Marshall. Following that fight, and after just two losses, Vinny was released from the UFC.

Last week we brought you PART 1 of our two-part PRO MMA ( exclusive interview with former Indianapolis Colts NFL linebacker turned pro MMA fighter, Rex Richards.

Rex has fought in Strikefore, King of the Cage, and the Art of War organizations. In part two, we learn where Rex will have his next bout as well as what he needs to do to achieve his goal of fighting in the UFC.  He discusses how he matches up with the current UFC heavyweights, including the only man to ever best him, Shane Carwin.

Rex also  talks about his school in Abilene, Texas and the very competitive sales industry he works in. It has been said, “it’s the age of the super heavyweights” and Rex Richards is helping lead the charge in the evolution of MMA.

Celebrate the life of Helio Gracie with the Gracie Family

On Tuesday morning Grand Master Helio Gracie was tanning at his ranch in Brazil, and on Thursday morning at 9:15 he passed on due to natural causes. His legacy will survive forever in all members of the Gracie Family, jiu-jitsu practitioners around the world, and all those who have benefited from the revolution he began.

In his final years, the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu often spoke of his satisfaction with his life’s work. He openly stated that he had accomplished everything he had set out to do, displaying his preparedness for the transition into the afterlife.
