The second fight of the night at Bellator 102 in Visalia, California is another middleweight tournament semifinal match-up between Mikkel Parlo and Jason Butcher. This also is a classic striker versus grappler matchup and will be sure to excite the fans seeing as Parlo is a great Dutch kickboxer and Butcher a phenomenal submission artist. The Bellator 98 event took place on Saturday night in Uncasville, Conneticut, at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The event was the beginning of Bellator’s eighth season and featured the start of an eight man middleweight tournament with the Bellator middleweight champ Alexander Shlemenko taking on Brett Cooper in the main event.
Bellator MMA was set to kick off their ninth season with a respectable card. However, medical issues have forced Joe Riggs and Joe Warren off the card, so a lot of the shine has dissipated. However, there is still a middleweight title fight and the first round of another Bellator tournament. The card takes place tomorrow night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card will air live on Spike.
This weekend, Bellator 61 was supposed to finally name the next man to challenge heavyweight champion Cole Konrad. Instead Eric Prindle pulled out of his rematch with Thiago Silva and delayed the rematch once again. Now, the card will be headlined by eight men hoping to earn a shot at the Bellator middleweight title. The field includes a few Bellator retreads, a UFC veteran and a former M-1 champion.
The fighter weigh-ins for Bellator 61 took place Thursday in Bossier City, Louisiana, in preparation for Friday night’s fights at the Horseshoe Riverdome.
Eduardo Dantas will face reigning Bellator bantamweight champ Zach Makovsky for the title at Bellator 65 in Atlantic City. The season six middleweight tournament semifinals are also scheduled.
