After UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s recent knee injury, his UFC 173 scheduled title defense against Lyoto Machida has been pushed back to July. Filling the main event slot on May 24 will be UFC bantamweight champ Renan Barao putting his title and 35 fight unbeaten streak up against 135-pound challenger TJ Dillashaw.
Two week, no problem. This seems to be a recurring theme of late as fighters are forced off cards with injuries and a replacement is signed to fill in on short notice. It’s the dream though right. Yet again another Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion has gotten the call up to the UFC. RFA bantamweight champ Pedro Munhoz (10-0) has landed a contract and a fight in about two weeks.
UFC officials have announced another bout for the UFC 170 event that’s set to take place in Las Vegas on February 22. The event will be headlined by the UFC light heavyweight bout between former UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans as he welcomes Daniel Cormier from the heavyweight division. The event will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
UFC bantamweight fighter Francisco Rivera (8-2-1) is scheduled to face Edwin Figueroa at UFC 156 on Feb.2. After recording a no contest in his last bout against Roland Delorme, Rivera will now look to bounce back into the win column and start his 2013 campaign off with a bang.
Pro MMA Now (www.prommanow.com) reporter Jay Cee recently got the chance to speak with Francisco about his upcoming bout against Edwin Figueroa, fight camp, his fighting style and failing the post-fight drug test for his last matchup.
