Lyman Good and Omar De La Cruz advance to finals at “Bellator VII” – full results

Bellator Fighting Championships continued its 12 week tournament series with “Bellator VII” Friday night May 15th at Chicago’s Aragon Entertainment Center. In the welterweight tournament semi-finals Lyman Good defeated Jorge Ortiz after a doctor stoppage and although UFC veteran Dave Menne started out strong getting a take down and full mount, Omar De La Cruz was able to get back to his feet and land a significant combination before taking down Menne and finishing him off midway into round one.

Lyman Good and Omar De La Cruz took home $50,000 and advance to the Bellator Welterweight World Championships where they will face one another for a cool $100,000. In her pro MMA debut, Kerry Vera, wife of UFC light heavyweight prospect Brandon Vera, defeated Leslie Smith by unanimous decision. Former UFC heavyweight Eddie Sanchez defeated Jay White by TKO improving his record to 9-3 after back-to-back losses. —- Results & Photos after the jump…

“Bellator VII” weigh-in results

Bellator Fighting Championships continues its 12 week tournament series with its seventh event taking place tonight, Friday May 15th, at Chicago’s Aragon Entertainment Center. UFC veteran Dave Menne will take on Omar De La Cruz and Jorge Ortiz will face Lyman Good in the welterweight semi-finals. Each winner will receive $50,000 and move to the finals where they will battle it out for the $100,000 grand prize at the Bellator World Championships.

All fighters successfully made weight for “Bellator VII” except Alonzo Martinez who came in one pound over the 156 lbs. lightweight limit. PRO MMA (promma.info) has not been notified if he was penalized for the overage. The fights take place tonight starting at 8:00 PM. Stay tuned to PRO MMA (promma.info) for the results.

PRO MMA (promma.info) has the official results from “Bellator VI” which went down Friday night at the Central Pavilion Arena in Robstown, Texas. The Featherweight Tournament semi-finals took place tonight and Joe Soto and Yahir Reyes both walked away with a cool $50,000 and advance to the finals for a shot at $100,000.

Yahir Reyes landed a devastating spinning back-fist that knocked out his opponent Estevan Payan early in round two and Joe Soto defeated Wilson Reis round-by-round, knocking him down in the third and securing a unanimous decision victory.

“Bellator VI” will air on ESPN Deportes Saturday May 9th at 11:00 PM EST and an English version of the broadcast will be available for viewing next Wednesday May 13th on the Bellator website (www.bellator.com).

“Bellator VI” weigh-in results

Joe Soto vs. Wilson Reis

All fighters have weighed in for “Bellator VI” which will take place in Robstown, Texas on Friday May 8th and air nationally on ESPN Deportes Saturday May 9th.

All fighters weighing in for the featherweight semi-finals made weight successfully except Estevan Payan who weighed in at two-and-a-half pounds over the 146-pound featherweight limit. In non-tournament bouts Hector Munoz weighed in at a whopping eight-and-a-half pounds over the 156-pound lightweight limit. Both Payan and Munoz were penalized for their overage.

The winners of the featherweight semi-finals will receive $50,000 and advance to the finals for a chance to win $100,000 and the Bellator Featherweight Championship. Here are the complete weigh in results:

“Bellator VI” lands in Texas on May 8

On Friday May 8, 2009 Bellator Fighting Championships continues its 12-week MMA tournament series with “Bellator VI” at the Central Pavilion Arena at Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown, Texas.

“Bellator VI” will feature the featherweight (145 lbs.) semi-finals with Wilson Reis (7-0) vs. Joe Soto (4-0) and Yahir Reyes (13-5) vs. Estevan Payan (7-1). The winner of each semi-final bout will receive $50,000 and move forward to face each other at the featherweight tournament finals to be held June 19th in Hollywood, Florida.

“Bellator VI” will also play host to six under card matches including a showdown between Nick Gonzalez (14-7) and Luis Palomino (9-5), who will be looking to bounce back after both fighters were eliminated from the featherweight tournament series in prior bouts.

“Bellator V” weigh-in results & photos

PRO MMA (promma.info) has received the official weigh-in results for “Bellator V” which  took place today in Dayton, Ohio. The start of the semi-final tournament series begins tomorrow, May 1st at Hara Arena with the lightweights and will continue with featherweight bouts at “Bellator VI” in Corpus Christ on May 8th, and the welterweights at “Bellator VII” in Chicago on May 15th.

Fighting in the lightweight semi-finals at “Bellator V” are Eddie Alvarez (16-2) vs. Eric Reynolds (11-1) and Jorge Masvidal (17-3) vs. Toby Imada (21-11). The winner of each bout will receive $50,000 and will move on to compete in the Bellator World Championship finals in June for a shot at the $100,000 grand prize.

“Bellator V” lightweight semi-finals take place in Dayton, Ohio on May 1

Eddie Alvarez will compete in the lightweight semi-finals at Bellator V

Bellator Fighting Championships’ twelve week tournament series arrives at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio on Friday, May 1, 2009 for “Bellator V” and as is standard procedure for each Bellator event, will air on ESPN Deportes the following day.

“Bellator V” will feature the first round of semi-finals with a $50,000 purse for each winner and will produce two lightweights to compete in the Bellator World Championship finals in June.

Bellator’s CEO Bjorn Rebney commented on the unique opportunity these fighters have, “At Bellator, each tournament fighter has their own destiny in their hands and at the Hara Arena two fighters will get the chance to advance to the Bellator Fighting Championships finals.”
