PRO MMA was in attendance at Strikeforce: Destruction this past Friday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Throughout the night Fast Eddie caught up with mixed martial artists Luke Stewart, Kurt Osiander and Ryan Bastianelli. The topics discussed were the evening’s event, contract situations, upcoming bouts and the future outlook for 2009. Fitch gives more background on video game deal

It’s now been several days since we found out that Jon Fitch is back in the UFC after signing on the dotted line for undisclosed terms relating to the “UFC 2009 Undisputed” video game following a meeting with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta.

In a phone interview with EDGE, an industry leading game network site, Fitch expounded on the situation and gave a few more details concerning the incident:  “Mostly, it didn’t really have anything to do with the game, it was more or less the way that Dana brought [the contract] to us. It was a respect thing. He talked down to us as fighters despite the work we’ve done for them.”

Kimbo Slice makes acting debut…on Nickelodeon

He goes from “street-fighting legend” to MMA superstar to….

starring on a Nickelodeon Christmas Special of course. Come on, anyone could have guessed that. It’s true. Kevin Ferguson a.k.a. Kimbo Slice will be making his acting debut starring in “Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh” which premieres on December 5th at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT.

Kimbo will be playing the character “Bludge,” a bully character that “Keeps the audience on their toes. You don’t know whether he’s going to smash somebody or if he’s going to give you a hug and a kiss.”

One of Kimbo’s child co-stars says, “Kimbo is like a great big muscle bound Teddy Bear.” Another one says, “He has been nothing but nice, professional, and really fun to work with.”

Hawaii MMA – X1 World Events Nov. 21 results

X1 World Events Mixed Martial Arts action took place at the O’Lounge Night Club in Hawaii on November 21, 2008. After their May event, the X1 staff decided to end the year with three smaller venues to showcase newer talent.

From these small shows, X1 has found themselves some new names to add to their Blaisdell shows in 2009. In September we saw pro fighters Vili Fonokalafi (250), Brad Tavares (185) and Justin Mercado (145) shine as did amateur standout Sean Sakata (170), In October Isaiah Cobb-Adams (140) made his comeback, while Kana Hyatt (135) and Brandon Visher (145) continued their winning ways. Amateur fighter Nalu Jones (205) and Jorey Baysinger (205) should tremendous heart in there three round war.

Gil Castillo Possible 2009 Return

At the Strikeforce:Destruction card in San Jose, California this past Friday Promma.info learned that former UFC welterweight and Combat Fitness instructor Gil Castillo (8-5) may return to MMA competition for Strikeforce in 2009.

Following his victory over Tony Johnson, Eric Lawson (8-2) spoke to Promma.info about the possibility of Castillo returning to the ring. Lawson, who is a Combat Fitness fighter, also noted that if Castillo were to come back to action, both men may be scheduled to appear on the same card. There was no mention of a possible opponent for Castillo.

Dave Herman wins at King Of Kombat in Austin

Dave "Pee Wee" Herman

King of Kombat:  Season Beatings took place on November 22 in Austin, Texas and featured Elite XC veteran Dave “Pee Wee” Herman.

 Herman was on this week’s edition of Inside MMA and when asked who he was fighting simply replied, “some guy.”  Well, some guy (Chris Guillen) did not last long as a first round TKO improved Herman’s undefeated record to 12-0.

This card was supposed to feature TUF alum Sam Hogar, but he had to withdraw from the card due to injury.

Davis Sylvester defeated Navied Sadeghi via Submission(Guillotine) in Rd. 2
Adam Schindler defeated Justin Reiswerg via Submission(Choke) in Rd. 2

Japanese MMA – Shooto Gig North 3 Results

This Shooto MMA event took place on November 23 in Zepp Sapporo, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.  Home town favorite Takuya Mori was matched up against the veteran Junji Ikoma.

Shooto is a great breeding ground for tomorrow’s champions.  Such legendary Japanese MMA fighters as Takanori Gomi and Hayato Sakurai got their start in Shooto.
