Melvin Manhoef knocked out Mark Hunt in the first round with a big right hook. Shinya Aoki submitted Eddie Alvarez by heel hook in round 1 (just as I predicted) to win the WAMMA lightweight title.

Badr Hari received payback for illegally kicking his last opponent in the head after the ref had stopped the action by receiving a first round knockout from Alistair Overeem. Bob Sapp even defeated a cartoon. Here are the full results:

Melvin Manhoef replaces Jerome Le Banner at K-1 Dynamite!!

Dream’s official website is reporting that K-1 veteran, Jerome Le Banner is pulling out of his scheduled match up with Mark Hunt due to the flu. Stepping into the MMA rules fight will be middleweight, Melvin Manhoef.

Manhoef last donned his MMA gloves as a participant in Dream’s Middleweight Grand Prix back in September. After violently dispatching Pride veteran and Japanese fan favorite, Kazushi Sakuraba, he was defeated via triangle choke by the eventual champion, Gegard Mousasi.

After his defeat, rumors circulated that the Dutch muay thai fighter had retired. German website groundandpound.de reported that Manhoef was retiring to spend more time with his family. This will be his first fight since the announcement. The former Cage Rage light heavyweight champion, who normally competes at middleweight, will be at a tremendous size disadvantage when he takes on Hunt.

Could Hong Man Choi be the next MMA “freakshow” to hit the big time?

Hong Man Choi & Brock Lesnar
Hong Man Choi & Brock Lesnar

Not so long ago many thought that Brock Lesnar was just another MMA sideshow who was brought in to boost pay per view buys and ticket sales.  Now, he has become rather respectable due to his victory over MMA legend Randy Couture.  Those who compared the former NCAA champion to Kimbo Slice have been forced to eat at least a little taste of crow.

Back in the summer of 2007, Lesnar was set to make his debut against another freakish athlete , Choi Hong-man.  Of course, the California State Athletic Commission did not let him fight due to a tumor in his pituitary gland, and Lesnar was forced to debut against replacement fighter Kim Min-soo.  At 7 ft 2 in and weighing over 330 lb, it is safe to say that Hong-man would have provided a much stiffer test.
