Shogun says Mark Coleman has no honor

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (16-3) gets a chance for redemption at UFC 93 on Jan.17 in Dublin, Ireland when he faces Mark “The Hammer” Coleman (15-8).

In February 2006 at PRIDE 31, Shogun lost a fight to Coleman by TKO when he fell to the mat, landed the wrong way and broke his arm early in round one. While most fighters would not revel in a win of this nature, Coleman celebrated his victory as if he had won a World MMA Grand Prix. On top of that, a riot broke out between the two camps.

Shogun recently spoke to MMA Sports magazine and discussed what getting another shot at Coleman means to him. Shogun also responds to hearing that Thierry Sokoudjou (5-3) wants to fight him.

Roger Huerta turns down UFC

Roger Huerta apparently will not be locked into the UFC for five more fights. According to Sherdog.com, “El Matador” turned down a five fight contract in order to pursue other career ventures. The career: acting.

It had been originally reported, in early December, that the 25 year old lightweight had in fact signed a contract extension with the UFC.

While the latest news does not specify if he had indeed signed that contract or found a way out of it, Huerta appears content to try out his acting chops.

Flyweights will finally get respect they deserve

Shinichi Kojima is #1 Flyweight
For years any fighter who was too small for the welterweight division did not have a place in the UFC. Recently, the UFC reinstated the 155 lbs division and now some of the promotion’s biggest stars are lightweights.

Zuffa, as a whole, has not stopped there. With the purchase of the WEC, bantamweights and featherweights now have a flagship North American promotion that allows them to ply their trade. Thanks to the WEC, names like Urijah Faber or Miguel Torres are well known in MMA circles.

MMA Weekly is reporting that in 2009 the WEC is planning to promote a flyweight 125 lbs division. It seems only fair, since contrary to this report that alleges the WEC will “be hard pressed to find adult male humans who weigh 125lbs” and could only find “horse jockeys” that size, there are many talented smaller fighters out there.
