Werdum talks about controversial departure from UFC

It’s has been a troubling month for Fabricio Werdum. Rumors of his departure from the UFC began soon after his loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 90. While he first denied the speculation, he now can confirm his exit from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“When I first heard the rumors, I didn’t know anything. I had four more fights left with them on my contract, which ran to 2010. But they demanded to renegotiate my exiting contract by cutting my pay in half,” revealed the heavyweight. Adding also that his departure had nothing to do with the video game licensing dispute. “No that wasn’t an issue but it is not something that benefits the fighters.”

“It’s a pity. I would have liked to continue with the UFC but now we forge ahead,” said Fabricio who still has plans to move to the US.

Don’t expect the UFC in Hawaii anytime soon

by:  Jack Bratcher

At a time when MMA is legal in almost every state in the Union and the sport’s largest proponent, the UFC is poised to take over the world, one place the UFC will not be holding an event anytime in the foreseeable future is Hawaii.

Although UFC President Dana White and two of his champions, B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre are in Hawaii today holding a press conference to promote their title fight at UFC 94 and even though MMA is wildly popular on the islands, White has stated that it is too expensive to hold an event there.

Strikeforce weigh-ins: news and notes

Promma.info’s Eddie Constantine and Matt De La Rosa were on hand at the The Hotel DeAnza to witness the Strikeforce:Destruction weigh-ins Thursday night.

The only thing colder then the San Jose weather was Joe Riggs’s attitude. Riggs’s was visibly showing the affects of a twenty plus pound weight cut and became frustrated with the athletic commission’s handling of the scale, forcing Rigg’s to strip down prior to stepping on the scale.

Another fighter noticeably shaken from cutting weight was middleweight Terry Martin. Martin was seen lying on the floor before weighing in. Immediately after he stepped off the scale Martin rushed out of the room to begin replenishing himself for tomorrow’s co-main event.

Dana who? Jon Fitch back in the UFC

Have you ever gone over your boss’s head about something? Maybe you didn’t like the way he was doing something so you went to his boss and took care of it? Well, that is similar to what Jon Fitch has done. Previously we told you Fitch and Christian Wellisch had been cut from the UFC due to a merchandising contract dispute.

Yesterday the MMA community was stunned to learn  the welterweight contender had been ousted from the company.  Howerver, reports are now coming in that Fitch, after speaking with billionaire UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta via telephone has settled their differences and Fitch has agreed to sign the video game licensing agreement which in a sense was at the root of the problem.
