We reported to you two days ago that the UFC would be releasing “Ultimate Comebacks” as their foray into the Blu-ray market.  The price of this collection of bouts will be a reasonable $24.98, which is actually very good considering most regular UFC DVDs are priced anywhere from $15.99-$19.99.

“We are very excited to release the ULTIMATE COMEBACKS on Blu-ray, where our UFC fans will have a better viewing experience bringing UFC action right into their living room,” said Don Gold, executive vice-president of Zuffa LLC. “Fans that watch UFC already own Blu-ray and Playstation players, making the ULTIMATE COMEBACKS the perfect Blu-ray ‘must have’ title, and at a competitive price.”

UFC: Sport or Entertainment?

by: Jack Bratcher

I woke up today a bit confused. After watching a recent video interview with Randy Couture where he says that no one is pretending Brock Lesnar is the number one contender for the UFC Heavyweight Title, but rather it is “about the eyeballs,” it just got me to thinking.

Is the top MMA promotion in the world a sports league? I find myself telling people “MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world” and often I point to the UFC as proof of that. They are being covered by ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and innumerable sports news affiliates around the world. So I know I’m not crazy when I consider what the UFC does a sport.

Could Robbie Lawler be headed to the UFC?

by: Jack Bratcher

Robbie Lawler left the UFC in 2004 after two straight losses, first to Nick Diaz at UFC 47 by KO and then to Evan Tanner (R.I.P.) at UFC 50 by Triangle Choke. At the time he was still fairly young and brash.

Now think about this for a moment, since Robbie Lawler left the UFC in 2004 he has lost, count em’…one fight, that’s right, to Jason “Mayhem” Miller (where the hell is he?). And even that was two years ago.

Anderson Silva will retire in 2009

by: Jack Bratcher

We’ve heard all the rumors and the so-called “mistranslations” but it doesn’t seem to get any more clear than this new interview with Anderson Silva where he says he will retire once his current contract with the UFC is up.  He has six fights on his contract until June of 2009.  Silva says, “everything has it’s time and I believe my time is already over.”

When asked if it had anything to do with the salary he makes from the UFC he assures us it has nothing to do with that and that he has never fought for the money.  The reporter tells Silva that he is sad to hear this and Silva tells him not to be sad because he will be sitting at the side of the Octagon with a fat belly eating popcorn cheering on the fighters.
