Gracie Combatives – a PROMMA.INFO product review

I had the pleasure of being introduced to Ryron Gracie at the Hope of Mother Charity event. Ryron and his brother Rener are close friends to Tareq Azim and came out to show his support.

In talking with the son of Rorion Gracie (UFC founder and creator), the discussion quickly shifted to the focus of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Ryron and his family believe, and rightfully so, that the focus of BJJ schools are on competition and not self defense.

“There is no point in learning the half guard if you cannot escape a headlock.” This was the motivation in Ryron and Rener in creating the Gracie Combatives DVD’s. They wanted to spread the word and ideals that was taught to them by their grandfather, Grandmaster Helio Gracie.

PRO MMA Product Review: Boom Superfoods – FoodFight

If you are like most people you can always use some extra energy to get through the day. In fact, there is a huge industry out there that promises to give you all the energy you can handle. From Rockstar to Xenergy, from Yellowjackets to 5-Hour Energy, everyone seems to have the answer.

I was covering a show a few months ago and there was an energy drink sponsoring the event. They handed out some bottles of the drink to the media. It was cold and tasted decent so I gladly accepted. A few minutes later I was sweating and my body was tingling. It gave me energy but it wasn’t the kind of energy I wanted to feel.

PRO MMA Product Review: Chess Game Fight Gear Fight Shorts

Chess Game Fight Gear (www.chessgamefightgear.com) recently released a new line of Fight Shorts. The first thing I noticed about the shorts right off were how good they look. The main color is black with the Chess Game logo embroidered on the front and a white stripe going up each side with tiny Chess Game logos embroidered on each stripe. After taking a closer look at how the shorts are made, the thing that most impressed me was the attention to detail and high quality.

Every single logo, emblem, and word you see on the shorts is embroidered. Nothing is iron-on or screen print. I counted 22 different emblems and phrases that are all fine-stitched embroidery. For instance, on the backside of the left leg is the phrase, “Make Your Move” in small cursive writing that is sewn into the shorts in gray stitch. On the front of the right leg over the large gray Chess Game logo are the words, “Chess Game Fight Gea”r sewn with red stitch.

“Octagon”- a would be book review

A new less expensive Octagon now available

By Denny “The Mad One” Hodge

If you visit the UFC site, you can still get your hands on “Octagon”, the collectors edition.  At $2700 is it really a shock that they still have it in stock?  The book is huge at 21.5″ x 27″, and weighing in at nearly 50 pounds.

If you can’t picture just how big it is, take a look at the picture on the right.  Actually the book is now old news and has been fodder for many a keyboard warrior on popular MMA web sites and forums alike.

What is new about the book is that it will be re-released on December 15th for the retail price of $40. The new “trade” edition, is smaller, and was NOT hand-bound in Italy.
