‘Skala’ breaks his silence

Jared Shaw, affectionately known as “Skala”, has finally surfaced after months of absence from the public eye. He recently gave an interview to another man who has been taking a little break as well, Ariel Helwani.

In this new interview, ‘Skala’ talks about his time with ELITE XC, his accomplishments with helping to jumpstart the careers of a few now well-known fighters and the things he would have like to have done differently, given the chance.

He has one major regret out of his time with ELITE XC and that is the fact he stood up screaming when Kimbo Slice got knocked out by Seth Petruzelli on national TV. Shaw said now when you ‘Google’ his name inevitably that picture comes up. As the Editor of PRO MMA (promma.info) I’m proud to say we contributed to the cause. In fact we even had a ‘picture slogan’ contest in honor of that very memorable moment in MMA history.

Topps UFC Round 1- PRO MMA (promma.info) scores!

When I first heard of Topps teaming up with the UFC, I was excited. Being a huge MMA fan, and a former sports card addict, I had mixed feelings about my own participation in collecting these cards.

Needless to say, once the time was close, I contacted a local store in Nashville, Tennessee to the get the scoop. They were expecting them to hit by February 24th, so I waited for that day hoping I may get a chance to get a pack or two a day early, as they were to hit the shelves of hobby stores on the 25th.

I called, they were in, and the rest is history. They only had two boxes, and I handed my debit card over like a kid buying candy with his allowance. On the way back to work I kept wondering, will I get those tickets that are randomly inserted? Will the $200 I just dropped result in anything exciting?

It may take some time to get used to a lot of these new names, but these little dudes can scrap! Little guys like bantamweights, Marcos Galvao and Damacio Page are going to show the world what 135 pounds of solid muscle and speed can do.

Couture vs. Nogueira agree to meet at UFC 101

Randy “The Natural” Couture and Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira both verbally agreed to face off at UFC 101. The two former UFC heavyweight champions will step into the Octagon at a yet to be announced date in August.

Couture (16-9) and Noguiera (31-5-1) found themselves on the losing side of the UFC’s pseudo heavyweight tournament in their last bouts, with both men losing their titles to Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir respectively.

A win would most certainly catapult the victor back into title contention; however, the loser could face many questions surrounding their status within the division as well as retirement.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson: Climbing the welterweight ladder one fighter at a time – PRO MMA exclusive interview

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (7-2, 4-2 UFC) isn’t worried about a title shot. He doesn’t care if he faces Mike Swick next, or Dan Hardy, although he wouldn’t mind Hardy coming to America on his turf for a face off. “Rumble” isn’t concerned if he needs one, two, or three more wins to get a shot at the UFC Welterweight Crown.

What he does concentrate and focus on is his next opponent. Once the call is received and he knows who the lucky guy is, then Anthony knows it’s time to take that next step up the ladder towards his goal of being the best 170 pound fighter on the planet.

Johnson is a great wrestler and a collegiate national champion, but it has been his highlight reel knockouts that have been his signature in the UFC. Every time he steps into the Octagon, fans are getting to see even more versatile striking from the 6’2″ Welterweight, as showcased with his sick head kick KO of Kevin Burns in their rematch.

Dave Herman ready to get serious about MMA career – PRO MMA exclusive

To say that heavyweight MMA fighter, Dave “Pee Wee” Herman is a talented athlete is an understatement. The guy is nothing short of phenomenal. For anyone to come into professional mixed martial arts and go 13-0 by relying mainly on their natural ability is quite the feat. That is exactly what Dave Herman did.

However, Dave finally met his match in his last bout on January 4, 2009 when he took on Mu Bae Choi at Sengoku: ‘No Ran 2009’ in Japan. It looked as though Dave would finish Choi in the first round just like he had done all but one of his other opponents, but the Korean was very tough and survived.¬†Dave ended up gassing in round two and Choi was able to take advantage and get a TKO victory. In a little over two years as a professional fighter, it was Dave’s first defeat.
