Saturday night we will see former light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson fight former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. The Mauler made the decision to come out of retirement and make the move to heavyweight which is probably in his best interest. he lost in both attempts to dethrone Jon Jones so a third title shot would be unlikely especially with surging contenders appearing in the division.

Stepping up in weight means he doesn’t have to cut down to 205 anymore and for someone who is in his late 40s I can sympathize with how hard it is to cut weight the older you get. Alex is 33 years old so it’s not as bad as a 40-year-old but I bet it’s still tough.

Gus weighed in at what we consider to be his ideal weight for his heavyweight debut against Fabricio. The 6’5” Swedish athlete tipped the scales at 240 pounds and looks admittedly in great shape. Check it out.

Gustafsson vs Werdum goes down Saturday night on the UFC Fight Island 3 card.
