We were finally going to get UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson and then it went sideways…again. No one was sure whether or not it was actually going to happen anyway. Fighting events had been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic but Dana White was still out telling anyone who would listen the event would go on. He wasn’t lying.
While Khabib is now stuck in Russia a lot of us expected Conor McGregor to somehow step in for the Russian but we were wrong. Justin Gaethje won that fight lottery and now he will be fighting Ferguson for the interim lightweight title on April 18th. The UFC 249 location is being reported as a private island but until the weigh ins happen and all fighters are at the same place at the same time we will curb our enthusiasm.
Gaethje recently opened up about getting the call, his chances against Tony, and what the belt will mean if he wins. Check it out.
