Two fan heroes emerged in recent years. One was UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and the other was lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Usman’s heroic deed was a technical knockout of trash talking Colby Covington and allegedly breaking the Trump favorite’s jaw in the process. The racist things Covington said like calling Brazilians ‘filthy animals’ and he also went as far as insulting Usman‘s family members. He definitely had it coming.
Khabib’s was submitting Conor McGregor in 2018. Oddly, when the Russian tapped the Irishman and started a post fight brawl he somehow became even more beloved. Do you see how insanely backwards the fans can be at times? Conor acted like a child, was chastised by Nurmagomedov for it, and then the Russian does the same type of thing and is a hero.
Since then we have seen McGregor focus on his family and training while Khabib is posting things like this.
Conor returns, wins, stays humble and classy, gets tons of media attention, and this is what Khabib is doing. Not only that but there is a story about a foolish accusation that McGregor vs Cowboy Cerrone was a fixed fight and it came straight from papa Nurmagomedov. Instead of promoting his son, instead of talking about his son’s bout with Tony Ferguson later this year, and instead of providing any news of note he is accusing Cowboy of taking a dive.
Why aren’t you paying attention to us instead?!
Fans weren’t keen on McGregor fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr…guess who is talking about fighting Floyd? Khabib Nurmagomedov. No one is clamoring for that bout unless it is in MMA. He is one of the best MMA fighters the UFC has seen in a long time and has the potential to set all kinds of records. Yet he is talking about boxing?
How long do you think before loyal fans turn on him?
Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has a history of profane outbursts on social media and some of those are directed at Conor. He is also suspected of using his client accounts as an outlet to attack others. For example…
These are just a few of the things casting a negative light on the undefeated Russian. Will Tony Ferguson get the same animosity on April 8th at UFC 249?
