Oh Internet. You and your fake news. Certain less than reputable MMA sites have been posting the news that Floyd Mayweather has been knocked out cold in sparring by four-time world champion Zab Judah. And it appears their only source for the information are a series of Tweets from a fake Twitter profile.

Anyone who’s been a fan of the Catfish reality series on MTV knows by now how to use Google’s image search feature and that’s exactly what we did to find out more about this mysterious Tweeter who claims to be a writer for the non-existent Las Vegas Post.

We entered Mr. Mario Saunders’ profile photo into Google’s image search feature and found this guy, a marketing specialist named Mike Saunders. He even contributes to The Huffington Post. So yeah, it’s a fake profile trolling out fake news.

And go ahead and search for The Las Vegas Post. It doesn’t exist.

This exact same type of fake news, that Zab Judah had KO’d Floyd Mayweather in sparring, came out during the lead up to Floyd’s fight against Manny Pacquiao as well.

So who’s trolling and why? Is someone trying to affect the odds somehow? Create more buzz for the fight? Get more clicks to their website? Your guess is as good as ours on that, but the problem is when you have reputable MMA fighters sharing links to fake news stories on their social media pages because they have been paid to do so by the website posting them.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will make his pro boxing debut against the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas. The event will broadcast live on Showtime pay-per-view.
