Franklin, Kentucky’s Jason Herring will be headed to Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Aug. 19 when he faces fellow unbeaten welterweight Tyler Dempsey at Johnathan Ivey’s Cage Fighting Championships 2. Pro MMA Now spoke with Jason to get his scouting report on his opponent and find out more about his mixed martial arts journey.

Thanks for talking with us, Jason. How is training going for your upcoming fight?

Training is going great for the upcoming bout! I am hitting all areas and thus far have only had minor bumps as a result of camp. I am getting in good work in all the primary disciplines that I use for MMA.

How much do you know about your opponent Tyler Dempsey and what are your thoughts on him?

From the people that I have spoken with Tyler is a good guy. I know that he will be tough and has a good wrestling pedigree and is very skilled at the ground and pound aspect of MMA. I also know that he fights from the southpaw stance.

Where are you training for this fight and who is helping you prepare?

The primary portions of my training are at Bowling Green Judo Club, Bowling Green Boxing Academy, and Harvey’s Gym, but I do make it a point to cross train at other gyms to get different looks and skills.

How do you see the fight playing out?

This fight will produce fireworks, but in the end I see him lying on the canvas and me getting my hand raised in victory.

What got you into MMA?

I trained some boxing and BJJ for a couple of years to get/stay in shape then someone told me, “Hey, you’re good, you should fight.” I have continued to learn new skills and engage in various competitions since.

What are your goals in the sport?

My main goal is to simply compete against myself and become the best martial artist that I can be.

What would a win on Aug. 19th mean for you?

A win would bring my record to 4-0 and would be a stepping stone in helping me develop into a better martial artist and in general human being.

What’s life like for you outside of fighting?

Outside of fighting I work as a mental health therapist and a kickboxing instructor. I enjoy listening to podcasts, learning about psychology, spending time with family and friends, grilling, and in general living a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks for your time, any final words for the fans?

Thank you for supporting local MMA, please continue to do so and know that all the fighters on this card are working very hard to put on a good show for you. Be in Murfreesboro August 19th for a great night of fights. You will not want to miss it!
