Lesnar and Hunt

Here we go….

Brock Lesnar’s first hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has officially been set for August 23, 2016,taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, this according to MMA Junkie. There has been a formal request for a temporary suspension for the former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion. This is after Brock failed both an out-of-competition and in-competition test administered by United States Anti Doping Agency ahead of his fight against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in July. Hunt was livid after discovering the news of Lesnar’s failure and that there was something that could have been done to ensure the fairness of their bout. USADA could have sped up the process of getting the results back before the UFC 200 event, but chose not to.

For what it is worth, NSAC Chairman Anthony Marnell does take some of the blame for not doing side testing of his own.

There were multiple options along the way to come in on the side and perform separate, independent testing on top of their program. (NSAC Executive Director) Bob (Bennett) and I made the choice at the time to not do that – that’s on us. And hindsight is 20-20.

Now, the NSAC recognizes getting the tests back sooner than later is key.

The problem is not that the program didn’t work as it’s intended to work. They did exactly what they were supposed to do – it just took 14 days to get the information to the athletic commission. That’s a problem. And (USADA) needs to know moving forward that’s going to be a huge problem, and if we can’t get it faster than that, then we will be testing around the program on a continual basis.

USADA also recently stated that their organization would be ramping up its own testing efforts.
