Rashad Evans got trounced by Glover Teixeira in the first round of their bout at UFC on FOX 19. Afterwards, social media came out in support of him for the most part, but there are some of his fans who are calling for his retirement. Here are 5 reasons Rashad Evans should retire.

CHUCK LIDDELL

Rashad Evans ended the belief that Chuck Liddell was invincible at UFC 88. Chuck lost two in a row to Keith Jardine and Quintin Jackson, but it was the lights out KO by Evans that cinched it. The reason this is important is that Evans made a comment at the post fight presser, a cocky one, that Chuck had lost his edge. It looked very much like Rashad is at that point now. Once your speed and power dip it might be time to move on or risk your legacy and be remembered like Liddell – face down, unconscious.

JON JONES

Let’s be honest. There is zero chance of Rashad Evans ever reclaiming the light heavyweight championship with the landscape of the division filled with talent. Jon Jones looks poised to win the belt again and hold it for a long time unless he gets in trouble with the law. Knowing that, Evans is surely demoralized.

FOX

Rashad is good behind the desk as a commentator and could easily slide in to that role. I could see him as the UFC’s equivalent of the NBA’s Kenny Smith or Charles Barkley. He has nothing left to prove and this would make sense.

CHA-CHING

It’s estimated that Rashad’s net worth is $8.5 million dollars. He doesn’t need to fight anymore and could make solid money as a commentator or spokesperson for something like a supplement or clothing company.

LEGACY

I touched on this before but let me expound. Liddell will be remembered as the guy who got knocked out by Rich Franklin who had a broken arm in the fight. Franklin is a clubber who isn’t known for knocking people out. Liddell was face down, lights out, sleeping from a solid punch that hit him right on the button. His legendary toughness was gone from our minds and we remember only the guy who used to KO people getting KO’d himself. Evans is in danger of becoming “that guy” if he isn’t careful. As you get older, the chin gets weaker it’s just a fact of life.
