Manny Pacquiao is currently in training for his upcoming rematch with Timothy Bradley Jr. in April but he’s also campaigning for a seat in the Philippine Senate in May and recently did a TV interview where he was a bit too forthcoming with his views on gay marriage.

“If men mate with men, and women mate with women they are worse than animals,” Pacquiao stated. “It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female.”

Same sex marriage is outlawed in the Philippines due to the strong influence of Catholicism in the country. Pacquiao, who is quite open about his Christian faith, later apologized for his comments but still says he’s against same sex marriage.

“I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals,” Pacquiao stated via Instagram. “Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you.”
