Jacare_Belfort_UFC officials have announced that Brazil’s first UFC event of 2016 will featured former light heavyweight champion Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort taking on  former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza on Saturday, May 14.

The five-round middleweight main event will air on FOX Sports 1. The rest of the card will be announced shortly.

“Jacare” Souza (23-2, 2 NC) is coming off a fight against Yoel Romero that he lost via split decision but was ultimately turned into a no contest due to Romero failing a drug test. Souza had won eight consecutive bouts going into the Romero fight and could earn a title shot with a win over Belfort.

Victor Belfort (25-11) is coming off a first round KO win over Dan Henderson in his last outing. Belfort fought Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight title at UFC 187, losing via first round TKO. Belfort had won three consecutive fights leading up to the bout with Weidman.
