UFC President Dana White appeared on UFC Tonight Wednesday and delivered all sorts of tidbits. Like this one. Holly Holm will NOT be doing an immediate rematch with Ronda Rousey. She will fight someone else [we think Miesha Tate] before she and the Rowdy one square off again.
White gave his thoughts on featherweight champ Conor McGregor moving up to lightweight to fight for the title. At first cold to the idea of Conor trying to hold two belts at once, the UFC President seems to be warming up to the idea.
“Conor has said he’d like to win the 155 belt, fight four times a year, and defend both belts. If anybody can, he could,” White explained. “He’s done everything he’s said he would. I’m interested. Normally, I’d say if you move up in weight, you have to give up the belt. He wants to fight. He really likes money. If anyone can do it, it’s him.”
White also discussed the recent Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit war for the ages at UFC 195 and if they will have a rematch. He talked about the judging at UFC 195, if Rousey will fight again and more.
Dana White on if Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit will fight a rematch: “I don’t know. They were just in a five-round war. I’m not talking to them about fighting right now. It was a very close fight. It all depends on how you score that third round.”
White on if he’s talked to Carlos Condit about retiring: “No, I haven’t. I leave guys alone for a while and let them spend time with family and heal up before I ever call about fighting.”
White on possible changes in judging after questionable calls at UFC 195: “That night there were a lot of controversial decisions. But for the most part, with the new commission and the way things have been going, it’s better than it’s ever been. It’ll never be perfect.”
White on what Ryan Bader and Anthony Johnson are fighting for: “Bader has been on a run. Bader’s wanted a shot at [Cormier]. If he can get through the monster of Johnson, he’ll deserve his shot.”
White on if Ronda Rousey fights again: “You will see Ronda Rousey fight again. She’s dedicated the last three years to working hard, fighting, promoting, and taking the UFC to the next level. She’s taking some well-deserved time off. But you’ll see her fight again.”
White on if Holly Holm will have a rematch with Ronda Rousey next: “Holly Holm will fight before she fights Ronda again.”
