stipe miocicUFC heavyweight Stipe Miocic knocked out former champion Andrei Arlovksi in less than a minute at UFC 195 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. The quick win seems to have earned him a title shot against the winner of the upcoming UFC 196 title fight between champion Fabricio Werdum and former champion Cain Velasquez.

Miocic went on a tirade in the cage after knocking Arlovski out and even UFC commentator Joe Rogan seemed to insinuate that Miocic was next. UFC President Dana White spoke about it at the post-fight press conference:

“Who the hell was going to say no to him? He was like a psycho. I wasn’t going to say no.”

Miocic has won his last two fights via TKO and won five of his last six fights, with the lone loss coming in a grueling five round unanimous decision loss against former champion Junior dos Santos in December 2014.

UFC heavyweight Alstair Overeem knocked out Junior dos Santos in the second round of their matchup in December and may have been in the mix to get a title shot. However, that bout was the last fight on his UFC contract and he has opted to test the market via free agency. UFC title shots can be promised and that doesn’t necessarily mean much nowadays. It’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds, but Miocic is certainly worthy of a title shot as he’s hardly ever in a boring fight and puts opponents away convincingly.
