The main villain in The Force Awakens in terms of who is the antagonist is debatable, but one thing is not. Kylo Ren is the dark side practitioner we needed.

For so long we have had to endure our final Star Wars film being Revenge of the Sith. With horrible dialogue, an unnecessary love story, and stage choreographed swordplay – it was mediocre at best. Along came JJ Abrams.

Kylo Ren is deep. His emotions are prominent and we are not stuck with a cardboard cutout bad guy. You identify with him on so many levels and at some point you feel a tiny bit of compassion for the guy. I’m not saying he isn’t bad, not at all. He’s a villain for sure. Once you see this film you will see the position he is in and understand why he is so complex.

His knowledge of the force is incredible. He is powerful, crafty, and relentless in his pursuit to fulfill his destiny. At one point in the beginning of the film he does something so cool that it becomes the moment you breathe a sigh of relief.

The actor playing Ren is Adam Driver. Tall, handsome, and talented this guy kills it. He nails the role so perfectly that you become attached to his performance and want to see more. There is a tragic back story of sorts and he brings it to life. That being said, we do not need a prequel to this of his story Disney. Please, for the love of God no special editions either.

The Force Awakens is so good that I can say I forgive Lucasfilm for the trash prequels. Thank you JJ Abrams – you nailed it with everything, especially Kylo Ren.
