UFC officials have announced the return of one of the bantamweights brightest prospects in Michael “Mayday” McDonald. The 24 year old will return after a two year layoff to take on Japan’s Masanori Kanehara at UFC 195 on January 2, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

McDonald (16-3) is coming off a second round submission loss against Urijah Faber in December 2013. The young fighter has been sidelined with hand and wrist injuries for all of 2014, and looks to return after losing two of his last 3 fights in 2013.

Kanehara (25-12-5) is coming off split decision loss against Rani Yahya in his last bout in July 2015. The Japanese fighter has gone (1-1) in the UFC after fighting mostly in the DEEP Japanese MMA promotion.

The UFC 195 PPV event will be headlined by the UFC welterweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and former interim champion Carlos Condit. The co-main event will feature a heavyweight clash between former champion Andrei Arlovski and Stipe Miocic.
