UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor has had a meteoric rise in the world of MMA. He made his UFC debut in April 2013, and just over two years later he had become the interim UFC featherweight champion by defeating Chad Mendes at UFC 189. McGregor had originally been scheduled to face UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. However, Aldo suffered a rib injury a couple weeks out from the bout and was forced to pull out of the fight which gave Mendes the opportunity to fight McGregor for the interim title.
