It’s a long way off from the 4.4 million pay-per-view buys Mayweather vs. Pacquiao did in May, but the numbers for last weekend’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto fight are considerably less. ESPN boxing reporter Dan Rafael is saying a “generous” estimate for pay-per-view buys on Mayweather vs. Berto is 550,000.
PPV industry source on #MayweatherBerto numbers tells me they're very poor relatively speaking. 'Being generous is might hit 550,000 buys.'

Rafael also informs us this will be Mayweather’s weakest pay-per-view showing since he fought Carlos Baldomir in 2006.
#MayweatherBerto will be Floyd's weakest PPV showing since he first went on PPV with Gatti & Baldomir, fights that were 300k plus. #boxing

What does it all mean? Are boxing fans just fed up with Mayweather and saw this last fight with Berto and subsequent retirement as just a money grab? Are we sure he will return to fight again?
Whatever the case, Floyd is a very wealthy man. The Mayweather vs. Berto PPV numbers don’t look good compared to what he has been doing, but Floyd is done. He wipes his ass with 550,000 PPV money. He rides into the sunset 49-0 and with what appears to be at least most of his mental faculties still in tact. He may not have been the most exciting fighter, but the guy is anything but stupid when it comes to business.
