Hip-Hop Author to Lecture on Bobby, Bruce and Bambaataa’s Impact on Rap

HHCF Founder to Host Conversation on Hip-Hop, Education and Nonviolence

San Jose, CA, 8/19/15-  The Hip-Hop Chess Federation (HHCF) is proud to announce that it will host a presentation by its Founder Adisa Banjoko aka The Bishop, called Royal Wisdom. This one of a kind multimedia presentation will cover the little known connected history of how chess and kung-fu films impacted Hip-Hop. The event will take place at the new HHCF headquarters located at 42660 Christy St., Fremont, suite B in Fremont, CA September 5th at 3 PM. It is a free event, but a $5.00 donation is suggested.

The HHCF is the first 501c3 organization to fuse Hip-Hop, chess and martial arts to promote education innovation and nonviolence. The nonprofit has worked tirelessly for nonviolence since 2006. They recently were the foundation of a record breaking exhibit on Hip-Hop and Chess at the World Chess Hall of Fame in St. Louis. RZA of Wu-Tang Clan (the organization’s Director of Outreach) and The Bishop were among the first from the Hip-Hop community on the ground in Saint Louis to work for mutual understanding and peace.

Adisa Banjoko has presented at Harvard, Oberlin College, University of Connecticut and University Wisconsin Whitewater on the topic of these connected histories. This will be the first time, however the conversation will happen on the west coast. Before creating HHCF, Adisa Banjoko was one of the first west coast writers for The Source. He was one of the first journalists to interview Eazy E of NWA, Tupac Shakur, Nas, Del The Funkee Homosapien and Souls of Mischief among others. He went on to author the Lyrical Swords series on Hip-Hop.

“No other form of music on the earth celebrates chess as much as rap music” stated Adisa Banjoko. The work of Bobby Fischer, Bruce Lee and Afrika Bambaataa changed the way we look at the art and applications of chess, martial arts and Hip-Hop in our lives. This conversation will be centered on how that happened and where we can take it from here.”

Royal Wisdom will also look at how Hip-Hop, chess and martial arts help kids transcend traditional racial, cultural and gender barriers to promote peace and nonviolence. The entire talk will be live streamed on Periscope through the HHCF Twitter account @hiphopchess.

In addition to the lecture and panel there will be open chess gaming, and open mat for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu players to practice and drill techniques, For more information visithttps://www.facebook.com/events/523504481141692/  or www.hiphopchess.com .
