“Bellator 140: Lima vs. Koreshkov” takes place this evening, Friday, July 17, from The Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The event, which will broadcast live on Spike TV, is headlined with a welterweight title match as champion Douglas Lima (26-5) puts his belt on the line against knockout artist Andrey Koreshkov (17-1).

In the co-headliner, the always exciting Paul “Semtex” Daley (36-13) will look to slow the rise of fellow welterweight Dennis Olson (14-8). Flashy kickboxer Michael “Venom” Page (7-0) will open the main card on Spike against 29-fight veteran Rudy “Bad News” Bears (16-3).

Michael Page vs. Rudy Bears

Round 1 – Page feels him out with some dancing. Knocks Bears down with his first punch, a right hand. Page goes for a spinning back kick and Bears times it for a takedown, but Page reverses him and is right back up. The next punch Page throws is a one-two combination that knocks Bears out. Damn I love this guy.

Chris Honeycutt vs. Paul Bradley

Round 1 – Bradley got cut over his right eye from an accidental head butt. Honeycutt probably won the round though it was fairly close in the stand-up. 10-9 Honeycutt.

Round 2 – Another accidental clash of heads cuts Bradley pretty good on his forehead and the blood is immediately pouring. The doctor checks him out and stops the fight.

Brennan Ward vs. Roger Carroll

Round 1 – Ward knocks Carroll down with a front kick early. Carroll taking a lot of shots and being taken down at will though Ward just lets him stand up each time. Carroll looks out-matched until he lands a kick to the groin. Timeout is called. … Back at it. Ward looking for the KO shot. Flying knee from Ward scores off the chin. Finally, a straight right starches Carroll. Carroll was clearly out of his league here.

Paul Daley vs. Dennis Olson

Round 1 – Olson with a body kick, but a left hand puts him down. He gets right up and takes Daley down pretty easily. Daley back up, turns Olson to the cage and gets his own takedown. Daley works ground and pound from top. Daley finally lets him up, lands an uppercut as Olson shoots in. Daley lights him up with punches before Olson scores a takedown. Daley ends up on top landing some big punches before the bell. Olson goes for an armbar at the end. 10-9 Daley.

Round 2 – Body kick from Olson, Daley trips him then lights him up with punches as he tries to stand, then goes back down. Daley works him over and finishes with a left uppercut as Olson is trying to get up again. He’s done. Ref stops it.

Douglas Lima (c) vs. Andrey Koreshkov – for welterweight title

Round 1 – Koreshkov with a takedown but Lima is up pretty quick, although is taken right back down. Lima pops back up, lands a stiff left jab. He buckles Koreshkov’s leg with a low kick, then lands a solid left. Koreshkov with a body punch. Low kick from Lima. Another takedown from Koreshkov. 10-9 Koreshkov.

Round 2 – Lima mostly playing the counterstrike game. Koreshkov pressing with strikes, Lima with a trip takedown but can’t keep Koreshkov down. Lima with a nice low kick. Koreshkov pushes forward with punches, presses Lima to the cage. He picks Lima up for the takedown and takes top control inside guard where he ends the round. 10-9 Koreshkov.

Round 3 – Lima has been looking rusty this fight so far after the long layoff. Another takedown from Koreshkov. Lima sweeps him and they are back to the feet. Koreshkov stays on him though, looking for the takedown again. They trade a few shot before Koreshkov scores the takedow and works the ground and pound from full guard. 10-9 Koreshkov.

Round 4 – They trade some leg kicks and Koreshkov continues to press Lima backward. Big body kick from Koreshkov, then a takedown. Koreshkov keeps Lima on the ground most of the round, despite a reversal and Lima briefly getting back to his feet once. 10-9 Koreshkov.

Round 5 – Lima needs to stop him to win. Heavy low kick from Lima. Koreshkov tees off with a leg kick/punch combo. Low kick again. Lima just looks off, a bit lethargic or something. Koreshkov backs him to the cage with strikes with under 2 minutes to go. Lima finally stuffs a takedown and lands some shots on Koreshkov, taking him down at the bell. 10-9 Koreshkov. No one would mistake this for an exiting fight but it was a strategic game plan from Koreshkov.
