ConorMcgregorThe MMA world waited on edge to see if reigning, defending and only UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo would still be able to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 189 on July 11th. We were told Aldo had possibly broken his rib in training and with the highly-anticipated bout just a couple weeks away there was doubt the champ would be able to fight. Turns out it was just a bruised rib and the fight is still on.

Dana White told the fans not to worry and McGregor just kept on training and it was “business as usual” for him. And when you consider McGregor predicted last December that Aldo would pull out of the fight (and expected Frankie Edgar as a replacement), his response to the news that Aldo is still fighting should come as no surprise.

See ya in Vegas Aldo.

And… it turns out Edgar wasn’t tapped as the replacement either if Aldo had not been cleared to fight. That honor would have gone to number one ranked featherweight Chad Mendes — who will still serve as a replacement if something else should happen to prevent Aldo from fighting on July 11.

Edgar felt slighted when he learned Mendes was next in line to take on the Irish smack talker if Aldo pulls out.

Aldo, Edgar, Mendes, McGregor — eventually they’ll all fight one another, that’s the good news. Hang in there Frankie, you’ll eventually get your shot at The Notorious one.
