aldo vs mcgregor1

I called it. Jose Aldo is most likely going to be out of his bout with Conor McGregor. Aldo has the same luck as Chris Weidman did when he was to face bitter rival Vitor Belfort. I wanted this fight to go down in the worst way between Conor and Jose, but there is a damn good chance it’s done. Let’s look at what we know.

From MMAFighting

News broke on Wednesday that the Nova Uniao star has broken his rib during a sparring session in Rio de Janeiro for his July 11 bout with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. Devastated with the injury, “Scarface” still plans on fighting “The Notorious.”

“He cried. He wants this fight bad, everybody invested a lot in this,” Nova Uniao head coach Andre Pederneiras told Combate. “I was with him the whole afternoon. He’s heartbroken. He wants to fight anyway. Now we have to wait for the exam results. Aldo is in deep pain.”

Sources close to the situation told MMA Fighting that Aldo fractured his rib while training with 5-0 lightweight Alcides Nunes, and Pederneiras won’t make the decision to take Aldo from the card before talking with his doctors on Thursday morning.

From Conor himself after hearing the news. Some believe this is a sign Chad Mendes or Frankie Edgar may step in to face the the Notorious one.

Just know that it is business as usual up here at the top. See you all on July 11th.

Frankie Edgar Tweeted the following leading people to believe what they already thought – that Dana told Edgar to be ready if this happened.

@FrankieEdgar

Staring at my phone like………
In 2014 McGregor gave his best impression of a Nostradamus prophecy of this exact scenario. Freaky….

“If I’m being honest I can see a fight between myself and Jose being scheduled for a stadium, either Croke Park or the Aviva Stadium but then I could see Jose pulling [out],” McGregor said.

“But I could see Frankie stepping in.”

Some actually believe Aldo wanted Edgar to face Conor because Frankie has the tools to beat him and rid Jose of this nuisance. We doubt that, but it sounds legit enough for forum trolls to run with.

Here are some Tweets from other fighters reacting to the news.

  1. How was it the “exact scenario” when he said Croke Park or Aviva Stadium?
    The media will say anything to keep Conor on a pedestal. It’s hilarious.
