UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler

UFC officials have announced that UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler will look to defend his title against Rory MacDonald on July 11 at UFC 189. This fight will mark the second title fight on the card as Jose Aldo will look to defend his featherweight title against Conor McGregor in the co-main event.

The event will take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Lawler (25-10) is coming off a split decision win over Johny Hendricks to become the new UFC welterweight champion at UFC 181. Lawler has won three bouts in a row and owns a split decision win over MacDonald from UFC 167 in 2013.

MacDonald (15-2) is coming off a TKO win over Tarec Saffiedine in his last outing in October 2014. MacDonald has won three consecutive bouts since the loss to Lawler, including a unanimous decision win over highly ranked Tyron Woodley.

The UFC 189 event will take place during the 2015 edition of International Fight Week. Stay tuned to ProMMAnow.com for more UFC 189 news and coverage.
