UFC officials have announced that middleweights Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yoel Romero will co-main event the UFC on FOX card that’s set for April 18 in Newark, New Jersey. The bout was originally slated for UFC 184, but Souza withdrew from the bout with an illness. The UFC on FOX 15 card will be headlined by the middleweight scrap between Luke Rockhold and Lyoto Machida.
UFC on FOX 15 will take place at the Prudential Center.
Souza (21-3, 1NC) has rattled off four consecutive wins since coming over from the Strikeforce promotion and hasn’t lost since 2011. Souza is a world class grappler who has improved his striking considerably over the years, and would be one step closer to a title shot with an impressive win over Romero.
Romero (9-1) is coming off a TKO win over Tim Kennedy in his last outing at UFC 178. There was some controversy in the fight with Romero refusing to get off his stool for the final round when it was time to do so, but Kennedy wasn’t without fault in the fight as well. He illegally held Romero’s glove while landing huge punches in the fight. Romero was a Olympic silver medalist for Cuba in 2000, and has shown incredible power in his strikes with eight wins via TKO/KO.
UFC on FOX 15 tickets will go on sale February 20th. Stay tuned to ProMMAnow.com for more news and coverage.
