Robbie Lawler

Jeremy Brand from MMASucka surveyed a selection of the MMA online media for their scores of Saturday’s main event between Johny Hendricks and new UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. Check his work out.

The official judge’s scores were:

Sal D’Amato: 48-47 Hendricks  (Lawler wins 1 and 5. Hendricks wins 2, 3, 4)
Marcos Rosales: 48-47 Lawler (Lawler wins 1, 4 and 5. Hendricks wins 2, 3)
Glenn Trowbridge 49-46 Lawler (Lawler wins 1, 2, 4, 5. Hendricks wins 3)

scorecard

The online media scored it differently per the norm and seemed to be in agreement that Johny did enough to win.

Ian Bain (MMA Opinion) 48-47 for Hendricks, then Lawler*
Duane Finley (Bleacher Report) 48-47 Hendricks
James Lynch (Sportsnet) 48-47 Hendricks
Damon Martin (FOX Sports) 48-47 Hendricks

Marc Raimondi (MMAFighting) 48-47 Hendricks
Mookie Alexander (BloodyElbow) 48-47 Hendricks
Erik Fontanez (MMAWeekly) 48-47 Hendricks
Kirik Jenness (MixedMartialArts.com) 48-47 Hendricks**

Nick Kalikas (MMAOddsbreaker) 48-47 Lawler***

*Originally scored it 48-47 for Hendricks, but changed opinion after a second viewing. Second viewings are of course not available when judging. On the other hand, watching the fight the first time, you not watch as a judge.
**Scored fight as an ass in a seat, not a judge.
***Thought the judges would see it 48-47 Hendricks but personally had it 48-47 Lawler

PMN scored the card 49-46 for Hendricks, but 48-47 was certainly justifiable.

There is a vast majority of people across the net that think Glenn Trowbridge scored the bout so badly that he should be excused from judging any event in the near future. We are happy for Robbie who has worked very hard to rebuild his career. Lawler’s rise to champion is one of the best rebirth stories of all time.

Make this happen for 2015 please Dana – a rematch with Nick Diaz who KO’d Lawler earlier in his career.
