Vince

First off this is uncharacteristic of a man who built an empire. Apologizing that is. Imagine Alexander apologizing to all of his disgruntled soldiers and now slap yourself because that would never happen. Of all of the people for Vince to apologize to – CM Punk seems like the least deserving candidate. Sure there was Savage, Warrior, and Hogan before Punk who left and spit venom. This business, especially the WWE can wear an athlete out and McMahon knows this. He has never been one to shy away from reconciliations. Some of those like Hogan’s and Warrior’s have been the best stories in the last ten years.

Punk was not a part of WWE’s nostalgia inducing Attitude or Rock N’ Wrestling eras. He was part of one of the most forgettable eras in wrestling history, the “Brand” era and “Post-brand era”. In other words he shined at a time when it meant the least. Not surprisingly his departure hasn’t hurt business although it has pissed off hardcore fans.

Listen, that guy made millions off WWE and he still complains about the company like they mistreated him. I make peanuts but I am grateful for those peanuts and wouldn’t go out in public verbally smashing the people who paid me.

Vince McMahon took to Steve Austin’s podcast on the WWE Network and he spoke about CM Punk’s recent blasting of the company in a very roundabout and classy way.

I would like to apologize. Sometimes in a big corporation, the legal people don’t necessarily know what talent relations are doing and conversely and Punk got his severance papers on the day he got married. And that was a coincidence. So, I want to personally apologize for that.

Other than that, the only thing I want to say about Punk is there have been a number of individuals in the past that have been disgruntled, said a lot of things about the organization and I’m not going to wash the dirty laundry in public. I don’t think there’s any reason for that. I think there are a lot of things he may say that he may regret one day in terms of looking back at it. But nonetheless, I hope that one day we will be able to get back together again.
