Dan Henderson
Dan “Hendo” Henderson

At UFC 173 this past Saturday night Dan Henderson was absolutely manhandled by Daniel Cormier before being choked unconscious. Henderson looked completely overmatched and under-sized against Cormier.

This is really the first time I can remember where Henderson looked noticeably smaller. Henderson weighed in at a paltry 199lbs.

If he still wants to make a run at a title he needs to go down to 185lbs. However, even going down to Middleweight does not guarantee he will be able to make a title run.

In Henderson’s last six fights he has only won twice, both of those wins came against ‘Shogun’ Rua.

I do acknowledge that Henderson has fought nothing but top level competition, but something needs to change. Weighing in at 199lbs is way too much of a weight disadvantage against monsters like Cormier.

There are also plenty of good match ups at Middleweight; a rematch with Michael Bisping comes to mind. I love watching Henderson compete, but I don’t want him to get hurt. Going down to Middleweight would at least give Hendo a few more fights, and he wouldn’t be so undersized.

Time will eventually catch up with Henderson, but for now I’d like to see him go down to Middleweight.
