Matt “The Immortal” Brown might be riding the biggest hype train in the UFC right now. He’s won his last seven fights, six by knockout, most recently stopping Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40 earlier this month in one of the most memorable fights we’ve seen in some time — and one of the greatest first rounds of action we’ve ever seen.

After such an impressive performance many think Brown deserves the next shot at Johny Hendricks‘ Welterweight title, including yours truly.

But Cuban knockout artist and former Bellator Middleweight champion Hector Lombard is unimpressed with Brown’s win streak, and called out “The Immortal” via Twitter:

It is true what Lombard says. Brown’s current reign doesn’t include any top 10 guys or former champs. Guess what Lombard is… a top 10 guy and former champ (Bellator).

Brown has made it clear though, he wants a shot at the title for his next fight. However, as we all know, it’s up to the UFC who fights who next.

As for Lombard, he confirmed on Thursday his next fight will be against Dong Hyun Kim on Aug. 23rd in Macau, China. He reminded fans that Kim actually holds a win over Brown from 2008, even though Brown is now ranked at No. 6, while Lombard is ranked No. 7, and Kim is No. 9.

Lombard feels Brown “got lucky” by not having to face him next:

Nineteen of Lombard’s 34 wins have come by knockout. Seven more have been by submission. There’s no question the guy is SUPER dangerous. But did Matt Brown really “get lucky” or has “The Immortal’s” level of progression reached the point where he can handle a true top 10 guy, Olympic judoka and BJJ black belt — with devastating punching power?
