This Saturday, Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne will be facing off in the UFC on FOX 11 main event for a chance to fight for the UFC Heavyweight title! This stacked card also contains a high profile matchup between Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche in the co-headliner.
Brad Tavares vs Yoel Romero
Romero has finished all his opponents by tko or ko during his three fight win streak. Tavares has quietly put together a five fight win streak, winning all his fights by decision. Romero has major power and is a freakish athlete. He also has a very impressive wrestling resume to his name. Tavares has a bit of a grinding style, but he can finish his opponents. Tavares needs to beat Romero to the punch and find a way to grind him down. I don’t see Tavares being able to withstand the power of Romero.
Result: Yoel Romero wins via 2nd rnd TKO
Donald Cerrone vs Edson Barboza
Cerrone is coming off a devastating ko over Adriano Martins, while Barboza outpointed team Alpha Male’s Danny Castillo. This matchup has the potential to be the most exciting fight of the night. Both of these guys are very good kickboxers and love to stand and trade. I do think that Cerrone has a fairly big advantage on the ground, and he should look to take it there. Barboza should stay on his feet and look to frustrate Cerrone by staying at a distance. I think Cerrone takes this one.
Result: Cerrone wins via 3rd rnd Submission
Miesha Tate vs Liz Carmouche
Both of these fighters are coming off losses, and Tate has yet to pick up a win in the UFC. I will give Tate a little bit of a pass here because she has faced a little bit tougher competition than Carmouche. Carmouche is a very strong fighter and loves to get the takedown ground and pound from top position. Tate also prefers the ground, but uses a little more finesse to take her opponents down. I’ll have to take Tate on this one.
Result: Tate wins via unanimous decision
Fabricio Werdum vs Travis Browne
Werdum has really improved his striking lately, which has been the thing he has often taken criticism for. That does not mean he should try and stand with Browne. Heavyweights aren’t suppose to be has fast as Browne is. Werdum needs to take this to the ground IMMEDIATELY; otherwise his night will be short. If Browne can keep it standing he should be able to have his way with Werdum. Browne’s next fight will be for the title.
Result: Browne wins via 2nd rnd TKO
