UFC officials have announced that former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will meet in February 2014 in a middleweight matchup.

The event will take place in Jaragua do Sol, Brazil, and will air on FOX Sports 2.

Machida (20-4) made is middleweight debut in his last bout with a first round KO win over former training partner Mark Munoz. Machida had won two out of his last three bouts as a light heavyweight, but made the move down to the middleweight division after a controversial split decision loss to Phil Davis at UFC 163.

Mousasi (34-3-2) is coming off a unanimous decision win over the unknown Ilir Latifi who filled in for an injured Alexander Gustfasson at the last minute in April. It was his UFC debut, but he fought injured and has been sidelined since and has undergone knee surgery. He has competed as a middleweight in the past and was a champion of the DREAM promotion in Japan, but has been competing as a light heavyweight since 2009.
