GUSTAFSSON ON LOSING UFC 165: “I HAVEN’T BEEN THIS DISAPPOINTED BEFORE. I REALLY WANTED THAT BELT. IT SUCKS.”

Exclusive Gustafsson, Weidman, Silva, and Edgar Interviews On UFC TONIGHT This Week

LOS ANGELES, CA – On this week’s UFC TONIGHT, there were interviews with UFC light heavyweight challenger Alexander Gustafsson, UFC champion Chris Weidman, former champion Anderson Silva, No. 3 ranked featherweight Frankie Edgar, and rising star Conor McGregor.

UFC light heavyweight challenger Alexander Gustafsson on if the UFC has offered him a rematch with Jon Jones: “No, it’s just rumors now.”

Gustafsson on if he was knocked out by Jones elbow in the fourth round: “I saw stars. It was a good shot. I wasn’t out. I was still in control. I just kept trying to move.”

Gustafsson on his reception when he returned to Sweden: “It’s been great, but I haven’t been this disappointed before. I really wanted that belt. It sucks.”

UFC TONIGHT host Chael Sonnen on Gustafsson feeling down after losing UFC 165: “I’ve been there before. I was this close to being a world champion. And it hurt so bad. What you find out over time is that moments like this are remembered forever. They’ll remember it for ten years. They’ll still talk about the Jones – Gustafsson fight and they’ll do it 20 years from now. It was an epic battle and he was part of it.”

UFC TONIGHT Insider Ariel Helwani on Jon Jones’ injury: “He told me he did not break his foot. It’s just a deep bruise and he should be good to go in a few weeks. Right after the fight he thought the most-fair thing to do was to grant Alexander Gustafsson a rematch. Now, after watching the fight over ten more, Jones thinks he decisively won rounds two, four and five and that he decisively won the fight, so the most-fair thing to do is to move on.”

Glover Teixeira on if he thinks he should get the next title fight against Jon Jones: “I don’t want to wait for the rematch. I’m not going to say he doesn’t deserve a rematch. That was a great fight.”

Jacob “Stitch” Duran on if the doctor at UFC 165 was going to stop the fight because of Jon Jones being cut: “During the fourth round, the ref John McCarty wanted to look at the cut. In the first three rounds, I had it under control. In the fourth round, he popped a vein and was bleeding pretty good. The ref and doctor wanted to look at the cut, but I told them I had it under control. I’ve worked with the doctor before and he knew my talents and he let it go one more round.”

Middleweight champion Chris Weidman on if he wanted a rematch with Anderson Silva after he knocked him out: “Right after the knockout, I went up to him and said we have to have a rematch. He’s been a champion for a long time and is the greatest of all time and deserves a chance at an immediate rematch.”

Weidman on if he’ll try to beat Silva the same way in the rematch: “I’ll try to beat him any way I can. I prepare for a war and hope for the finish.”

Weidman on what’s changed for him after winning the title: “You get a lot of business opinions and a lot of proposals from people you don’t know. I’m opening up an extermination business, and I’m getting into the snow removal business and a landscaping business.”

Anderson Silva on why he decided to go for a rematch with Chris Weidman: “I have the contract and nine more fights. I go for the rematch.”

Silva on if he wants a super fight with Jon Jones: “No, no, no, definitely not. I don’t like the super fight. My super fight is Roy Jones Jr.”

Upcoming THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER Season 19 Coach Frankie Edgar on if he fears losing to BJ Penn: “You always have something to lose. It’s a fight. It’s win or lose. I have two wins over him, but a loss would be detrimental for me. I’m willing to take that risk.”

Edgar on if a victory over Penn would cause Penn to retire: “I think I have his number. Every fight is different, so this is a new challenge. I want to show my improvement over the last three years. I know he’s close to retirement, but maybe another loss will decide it for him.”

Conor McGregor on his recovery from ACL surgery: “I’m following the blueprint that Georges St-Pierre set down. He had the same injury. I have the same doctor and the same rehab.”

McGregor on he wants to fight next: “You can put me in with any of these guys. I try to be so humble, but I look around the top 10, and I see rookies everywhere. So many rookies and so little time, I just can’t wait to come back.”

McGregor on how he got his nickname: “I don’t shy away from controversy. This is the fight game. I’m here to stake my claim. It’s nice to be nice, but it pays to be bad. I’m in here to make everyone feel uncomfortable.”
