[ads1]Gray MaynardNo. 3 ranked UFC lightweight Gray Maynard will face No. 5 ranked T.J. Grant Saturday night at UFC 160 in Las Vegas. The winner of the bout has been promised a title shot against reigning champion Benson Henderson.

Maynard was a guest on MMA Tonight (102.5 FM The Game – Nashville) Wednesday evening and discussed the upcoming fight with Grant and shared his thoughts on a potential title shot should he win.

Concerning Grant:

“He doesn’t have a lot of holes. He’s complete, more or less and pretty good across the board. There’s a couple of small technical things that we’re trying to exploit but, you know, he’s had a problem with guys trying to take him down, he had a close one with I think Evan Dunham, then he looked good last bout, so… We kind of prepared across the board; a lot of hard sparring, bigger guys, just got me prepared.”

Asked if he thinks UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson has plateaued:

“He’s had some close ones. He had the Edgar bouts that were close. Diaz, he did a great job on that one, but last one was a close one too. I don’t know if he’s plateaued, but I think people are starting to know what he brings to the table. There’s starting to become a blueprint of course on how to beat him.”

Maynard also talked about his teammate Luke Rockhold‘s loss to Vitor Belfort last weekend, his move to American Kickboxing Academy, what he learned from his loss to Frankie Edgar and much more.

In addition to talking with Maynard, hosts Darren McFarland, Chris Pappas and Ed Clay also discussed the competitive nature of fighters, they shared some entertaining Dave Herman stories, talked TRT and gave their picks for Saturday’s UFC 160 card headlined by Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
