Martin KampmannUFC welterweight contender Martin Kampmann gave all of his fans an update on his status this weekend via his Twitter account. The welterweight wrote the following:

Kampmann has been sidelined since a knockout loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC 154 in November. Kampmann was riding a three fight winning streak heading into the bout, but a crushing left hand from Hendricks put him away in 46 seconds.

Kampmann is a well rounded fighter and is almost never in a boring fight, so bouts with Diaz or Saffiedine would certainly be entertaining while also putting him back in the mix among the divisions best fighters.

It looks like he’ll be watching UFC 158 while possibly scouting his next opponent should GSP do what the odds makers think and run through Nick Diaz. If Diaz pulls off the upset I’m pretty sure he would probably get an instant rematch since he has held the title for so long. So Kampmann’s dreams of fighting GSP in that capacity are probably off base. He then would have to fight someone like Tarec Saffiedine in his next bout. Stay tuned this week for more UFC 158 coverage.
